Color Psychology

Everyone has a favorite color. So what is your favorite color to paint a room? Now that its spring and summer is around the corner, there are so many bright colors that come into mind. What emotions does the color of your room cause?

The main color of your room can have an effect on your mood. These colors can make you feel anything from peaceful to furious. So when trying to create peace and harmony in your home choose your colors wisely. Ancient cultures used colors for therapeutic reasons – to heal the body known at Chromotherapy.

Some colors work best in certain rooms. Some are not good to use in any room of your house. Here is a list of colors that can give you more of an idea at color psychology and chromotherapy. It is helpful to learn which colors to use and which ones to avoid.

Red

Feelings of anger can result in sitting in a red room for periods of time. This color will eliminate any peace and harmony you are trying to create in your home. Ancient cultures used the color red to stimulate the body and mind to increase circulation.

Blue

You can have a more calming effect when the color blue is present. Choose lighter shades of blue for a room because darker blues evoke sadness. Softer shades will give you a warm and calming effect. Blue was used by ancient cultures to treat pain.

Green

This also has a calming effect and it believed to relieve stress by helping people relax. It is a great color for a bedroom.

Orange

If you want more energy and excitement in your home or in certain rooms, paint it orange. It is perfect for an exercise room. It has so much enthusiasm, it can help you bring out all the emotions you need when exercising. In ancient cultures orange was used to heal the lungs and increase energy levels.

Yellow

It might not be a good idea to have yellow in the main color scheme for a room. Even though it is a cheery color, people are most likely to lose their tempers in a yellow room. Yellow is the most fatiguing on the eyes. In chromotherapy yellow was believed to stimulate the nerves and purify the body.

White

White can make a room appear spacious but it also makes the room seem unfriendly. So when going with white add color accents in the room, such as colorful pillows, rugs, furniture, etc. White is also described as cold, bland and sterile.

Some colors work best in certain rooms, while others are not good to use in any room of your house. If you are having a hard time deciding what colors to paint your home, please give Five Star Painting a call for a FREE estimate 1-866-965-STAR.

Acoustic Paints

If you go to Yahoo! Answers and ask about re-painting your guitar, most of the users will encourage you not to. If you do, they’ll plead with you to ensure that you get the painting done by a professional who knows how to properly handle the wooden instrument. Painting, and all of the prep work behind it, can add a completely different layer of sound to a room; it can alter it, remove certain qualities and certainly magnify others.

Acoustic guitarists know how imperative sound quality is in creating the proper ambiance: isn’t your home as important?

Not everyone is concerned about the acoustics of their room; usually musicians of some variant or another are the only ones interested in maintaining favorable acoustics. However, if you’ve ever lived in the bottom floor of an apartment complex, you understand that sound barriers certainly make a difference.

Different varieties of paint can significantly alter the sound quality of a room.  and specialized acoustic paints tend to insulate a room further and can increase the privacy available in any given room. Since Five Star Painting usually favors latex-based paints, it seems we can now offer that slight boost towards a more secure room. A fair amount of people unfortunately discount this method, referencing it as another example of the cliché “snake oil” metaphor; however, several knowledgeable sources subsequently disagree. Although it is not a substitute for full acoustic treatment, it can enhance the sound protection and to some small extent, the sound quality of a room.

Five Star Painting allows you to choose the kind of paint you’d like to use. The next time you need to paint your home, be sure to choose a latex-based paint or specialized acoustic paint if an increase in sound privacy is something you’re interested in. Give us a call 1-866-965-STAR.

How Light Affects the Color of a Room

The color of a room initiates the ambiance that you’re looking for. That being the case, it can be a little tricky to pin down the color you really want to represent certain rooms in your home. Of course there are many aspects that go into that final decision; unfortunately, a lot of people overlook one crucial aspect of that chromatic and dramatic decision.

Paint color is a pigment; pigment color is technically defined as a material that changes the wavelengths of reflected light as the result of selective absorption. Considering that, it follows the lighting schemes and other various impacts that light could have on your room.

Lighting is just as integral a setting as color when it comes to the design of a room; however, it can be extremely difficult to re-wire an entire room just for lighting. Most of us just have to work with what we’ve got. A fresh coat of paint is a seamless and easy way to brighten a room or transform it easily into that calm oasis you’ve always wanted to get away to.

You’ll also want to contemplate light placement when observing the friendship between light and color. If you want your new lovely paint job to take center stage, directly placing the walls literally in the spotlight is a good call. However, if you’d prefer your paint to be a little more humble than that, a dim lighting throughout the room can softly emphasize your intended focus.

If there are windows in the room, you’ll definitely want to take that into consideration, especially when choosing your new paint tone. You don’t want a color that washes out when the bright, beautiful sun comes streaming through your open window. On the other hand, whatever color you choose remains with you during night hours as well; you probably don’t want a color that punches you in the face when you’re alone with it and it is dark outside.

Of course, in the end, your choice in color comes down to personal taste and, perhaps, the fashion of the time. Choosing a paint color for your home or apartment can be difficult, but with the expertise Five Star Painting team on your side, anything is possible! Call us for a FREE estimate 1-866-965-STAR.
